Modern architecture in Prague
Even though Prague is not Dubai with its artificial palm island in the sea, it can still offer you amazing and fascinating buildings. One of them, lying on the bank of the Vltava River, is probably the most famous „Dancing House“. Most of those buildings are used as office buildings.
So called „Dancing House“ was built between 1994 and 1996 and belongs to the main symbols of modern Prague. It´s located on the right bank of the Vltava River on the corner of Jiráskovo Square. The authors of Dancing House are Frank O. Gahry and Vlado Milunič. What´s interesting about the building are both the shape and the circumstances of creating. About the shape – the building is inspired by the famous dance couple, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, so it looks like them dancing. Therefore is Dancing House sometimes called „Ginger and Fred“. As for the circumstances, Dancing House was one of the first exclusive constructions made after the Velvet Revolution in 1989. It usually gets to the top-building-list in many competitions. Nowadays it serves as the office building.
Žižkov Tower is another example of modern architecture and the highest building in Prague (216m high). It was built between 1985 and 1992 and was designed by the architects Václav Aulický and Jiří Kozák. It lies on the boundary of Žižkov and Vinohrady and from the top 11 TV and 8 radio stations broadcast every day. In addition to this there is an elevator inside that takes visitors up to the observation terrace and restaurant. Palace Euro in the Wenceslas Square is considered as one of the best modern buildings in Prague.
If you want to explore something beautiful but calming, go to the Dancing Fountain (Křižíkova fontána) in Holešovice. The jets of water dance to the rhytms of music and are colored by the lights.
